Construction work is well under way on the first blocks of the Olympic Village

New pictures have been published showing the latest progress on the construction of the Olympic Village.

The Village will house athletes and officials during the London 2012 Games. After the Games it will provide thousands of new homes, with a mix of affordable housing, and homes for sale and rent.

The development will include 11 residential blocks, each made up of five to seven buildings. The foundations of several buildings have been completed and work is already under way on the ground floor levels of the first residential buildings.

Olympic Delivery Authority Chief Executive David Higgins said: ‘The Olympic Village will be one of the strongest legacies from the Games and these images show the progress we are making on site, keeping us on track to deliver quality new homes for Londoners together with new parks, public squares and community facilities.

‘Our discussions on the funding of the Village are continuing and in the meantime the acceleration of activity on site will help maintain the momentum of this huge project.’
