Rowing will take place at Dorney Lake during the London 2012 Games

The shortlist of contractors to build the enhanced Rowing and Flatwater Canoeing facilities ahead of the London 2012 Games was announced today.

Eton College Rowing Centre, at Dorney Lake, will host Flatwater Canoeing and Kayak as well as the Rowing events in 2012.

An existing eight-lane venue is being enhanced with a new bridge to help spectators access viewing areas.

The competition lane and the return lane are being linked by a new strip of water allowing athletes to move between the two lakes more easily. A road leading up to the venue is also being upgraded to improve access for construction vehicles working on site.

After the Games, Dorney Lake will continue to provide world-class training and competition facilities.

The five shortlisted companies are:
  • Morrison Construction Limited;
  • Carillion Construction Limited;
  • Edmund Nuttall Limited;
  • Norwest Holst Limited; and
  • Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Limited.
The contract for the enhancement works is expected to be awarded in early 2009, with works due to start on site later in 2009.
