A record number of visitors saw the Olympic Park as it was opened to the public for London Open House weekend.

Around 3,000 people were treated to bus tours around the Park, 50 per cent more than last year’s event. They were able to see first-hand the site clearance almost complete and construction work underway on three of the major venues – the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Olympic Village.

Open House also offered visitors an opportunity to meet Olympic and Paralympic athletes – Jason Gardener, Georgina Harland, Giles Long and Leon Taylor.

The Get Set London Roadshow was also there giving local people an opportunity to see how the 2012 Games will benefit jobs and skills, culture, sports, business and regeneration in the capital.

ODA Chairman John Armitt said: ‘Visitors to the site during last year’s Open House were able to see the work underway to clean and clear the Olympic Park, much of it contaminated through decades of industrial use. This weekend thousands of people saw first hand that while Team GB and Paralympic GB were shining in Beijing work has been continuing at pace on the construction of the venues and infrastructure for the London 2012 Games.’
