Piling work on the Aquatics Centre site

New images showing work progressing well on the foundations of the Aquatics Centre have been published.

Work has started to create the foundations for the platforms that will support the sweeping wave-like roof of the Aquatics Centre. Over 100 concrete piles have already been drilled up to 25 metres into the ground.

Around 1,500 tonnes of recycled demolition material from the Olympic Park site is being used to form the piling platform for the foundations of the pools. The platform provides a solid base for the heavy machinery that installs the piles into the ground.

Elsewhere on the Aquatics Centre site, nearly 3,000 tonnes of soil per day is currently being excavated from the areas of the two 50m swimming pools and diving pool.
