Millions of people around the UK will celebrate the moment the Olympic Games are officially handed over from Beijing to London, on Sunday 24 August.
The
Handover will take place in Beijing with an eight-minute segment during the Closing Ceremony when the flag is passed from the Mayor of Beijing to the Mayor of London. David Beckham, Leona Lewis and Led Zeppelin guitarist will star in the show.
Around 40,000 people will gather on The Mall to watch it live and then enjoy the
Visa London 2012 Party featuring top acts and special Olympic stars.
Giant screens in every nation and region in the UK will screen the Handover and the party, which will also be broadcast to millions on BBC One and Radio 2. The crowds will be encouraged to be in full voice with a special ‘Sing the Nation’ event.
In addition, special
Handover Flags will be raised in over 400 local authorities to mark the moment.
