Progress is continuing on the Olympic Stadium, with the start of work to build the concrete supports for the lower tiers of seating.

A dedicated area on the Stadium site is being used to create the 200 concrete structures that will support the Stadium’s 25,000 permanent seats. Having the supports made on site will significantly reduce traffic on roads in and around the Olympic Park.

Work has also started on the supports for one of the main bridges that pedestrians will use to access the Stadium island.

ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said: ‘The Stadium site is now a hive of activity and over the coming months we will see the Stadium structure start to rise from the ground.

‘This is a challenging project and we are not complacent about the challenges that lie ahead but we have made a strong start. Real progress is being made every day on the site.’

All eight tower cranes, each between 48m and 60m high, have now been erected in the Stadium ‘bowl’ - ready for the acceleration of the concrete and steel work. They are currently the tallest visible landmark on site.
