A consortium has been appointed to create the International Broadcast Centre/Main Press Centre (IBC/MPC) for the London 2012 Games.

During the Games the IBC/MPC will be a 24-hour hub for 20,000 broadcasters, photographers and journalists.

After the Games the consortium of Carillion and Igloo will transform the 1.3 million square foot development into a mixed use office and business space larger than Canary Wharf Tower. The space will generate more than 8,000 new jobs in Hackney.

The site of the IBC/MPC has been cleared and planning permission and final designs are expected to be agreed later this year. The detailed uses and designs of the buildings after the Games will be finalised as part of the London Development Agency’s consultation on how the Olympic Park area will be developed after 2012.

ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said: ‘We now have world class teams in place to deliver four of the ‘big five’ Olympic Park venues. The agreement to develop the IBC/MPC will represent a significant private sector investment into the regeneration of Hackney, which has some of the highest unemployment levels in the country.’
