The designs for a new world-class White Water Canoe Centre, in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, have been unveiled.

A planning application has now been submitted for the venue.

New facilities include a 300m course, with a warm-up course and finish lake. White-water will be created through a system of pumps and obstacles. The course will be part of a wider parkland area. Path and bridge networks throughout the venue will help spectators get close to the action. After the Games the venue will be a major sporting and leisure attraction.

A new building will also be built containing a reception, café, changing rooms, shop, offices, spectator viewing area, equipment storage and water pump/filtration facilities.

The Centre will be owned and managed by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, which owns the land.

Shaun Dawson, Chief Executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, said: ‘This site in the River Lee Country Park will be a fantastic venue for the White Water Canoe Centre. And beyond 2012, we are committed to delivering a major sporting and leisure attraction for this area – a true and lasting legacy.’
