Nearly all of the 2.5 sq km Olympic Park site has now been tested for harmful materials in preparation for the start of construction.
Around 1.5 million tonnes of contaminated soil are being cleaned so it can be reused to prepare the land for venues and parklands.
Five soil washing machines have been installed on the Olympic Park to wash, sieve and shake out pollutants such as petrol and oil left in the soil after years of industrial work.
Billions of tiny bugs are also being used to eat away pollutants - a process that does not generate any waste, significantly reducing the amount of material being taken to landfill sites.
