The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) today showed further commitment to staging a truly sustainable Games by becoming a member of the 'Supplier Ethical Data Exchange' (Sedex).
LOCOG also announced it is working towards publishing a Sustainable Sourcing Code in autumn 2008.
Today's measures will help LOCOG to monitor the environmental and social impact of the Games both from direct contracts and through the supply chain.
Contractors and licensees will be monitored on labour standards, health and safety, business integrity and general environmental issues.
The Sourcing Code is based on four key principles, following internationally recognised standards. The principles include using products that have recycled content and reusing and recyling materials as much as possible.
Chair of LOCOG Seb Coe said: 'The Sustainability Plan which was launched last year marked the start of a process that underpins all of our preparations for London 2012.
'Our membership of Sedex and publication of our Sustainable Sourcing Code later this year are two significant examples of this plan coming to fruition.'
