Cultural organisations from across the UK are being invited to be part of the London 2012 culture programme.

Inspiring projects from a wide range of communities will be included in the Cultural Olympiad, placing culture and creativity at the heart of London 2012.

Ideas can now be submitted to Creative Programmers in every nation and region, and will be chosen according to clear criteria. A limited number will form part of the Cultural Olympiad in September and will be endorsed by a new ‘Inspire mark’.

The Cultural Olympiad will last right through to the end of the 2012 Games.

London 2012 Director of Culture, Ceremonies and Education, Bill Morris said: ‘The key message is that if you’re inspired by the London 2012 Games, we’re opening up our programme like never before. This is an exciting step for London 2012 and the Olympic movement, because the cultural sector has the opportunity to be at the epicentre of London 2012 Games.

‘This is an innovative new venture so we’ll be starting with just a few carefully selected projects from all over the UK, but once it has bedded down we aim to expand its remit more widely over the next four years.’
