Singapore will host the first Summer Youth Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced yesterday.
Young people aged 14-18 will have the chance to compete at the highest level, while learning and sharing the Olympic values and benefits of sport.
Around 3,200 young athletes will come together in 2010 for the Games.
Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC said: ''This is a key moment for the Olympic Movement. Singapore has put together a very exciting project. Hosting the Youth Olympic Games for the first time is a great responsibility, and I have every confidence in the team in Singapore.
'I have no doubt that their professionalism and enthusiasm will be instrumental in the staging of successful Youth Olympic Games in 2010.'
