Double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes and Sir Trevor McDonald will beĀ among the 80 sports stars, actors, musicians and young people to carry the Beijing Olympic Torch through the streets of London.
Large crowds are expected to greet the Torch as it makes its way from Wembley Stadium to the Arena in North Greenwich on 6 April. The route includes Notting Hill, Trafalgar Square, the City and East London.
Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London said: 'Following the outstanding success of the Athens Olympic Torch Relay in London in 2004, it is a great honour for our city to participate in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay and once again carry the Olympic spirit of friendship and co-operation between nations across the world.
'Staging the Torch Relay is a great privilege for the capital and demonstrates our support for the Olympic Games movement. In the year that will see the handover from Beijing to London, it is a unique opportunity to generate interest and excitement across the capital as London itself prepares for the Games in 2012.'
The Torch will be lit at Olympia in Greece on 24 March and will visit 22 cities in five continents around the world before reaching Beijing in August for the official opening of the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games.
