Railway project signals progress

Orient Way sidings
Work on-track as new sidings at Orient Way are fitted

Significant progress is being made to move existing railway sidings on the Olympic Park. The vacated area in the heart of the Park will become a key logistics site for the construction of the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre.

Twelve new railway sidings are being constructed at Orient Way, just outside the north-east boundary of the Olympic Park, giving a green light for the existing set of sidings to be taken away in the summer 2008.

The new sidings at Orient Way will be made up of 5km of track, covering the same area as three full-size football pitches. They are due to be finished in summer 2008 and will be the first major 2012 transport project to be completed.

Work is also continuing on the ODA’s £100m project to boost capacity and increase accessibility at Stratford Regional Station, a key gateway into the Olympic Park.
