Plans for the creation of a new community next to the Olympic Park in the heart of east London were welcomed today by the Olympic Delivery Authority.
The plans proposed by the preferred developers Lend Lease show how the Olympic Village will be transformed after the London 2012 Games.
During the Olympic Games the Village will accommodate 17,000 athletes and officials. Around 6,500 will be housed there during the Paralympic Games.
After the Games the plans propose around 4,000 new homes, many of which will be affordable, as well as new schools, hospitals, open spaces, transport links and community facilities.
Olympic Delivery Authority Chief Executive, David Higgins said: ‘The 2012 Games are about more than a summer of sport, they are a catalyst for much wider regeneration so I welcome Lend Lease’s exciting plans for a new legacy community in the heart of east London. I encourage all local people to view these proposals and have their say on how we transform this part of east London.’
The planning application for the Olympic Village and its transformation after the Games was unveiled at a public exhibition in Stratford. Local residents now have the opportunity to view and comment on the applications.
The application has been submitted to the ODA’s Planning Decisions Team, an independent body responsible for processing all applications relating to the Olympic Park on behalf of the ODA’s Planning Committee, which includes councillors from the four boroughs in the Olympic Park and externally appointed independent members.
Feedback received during public consultation will be considered before the ODA’s Planning Committee issues its decision on the application, expected to be at the end of the year.
