UK School Games underway

Table tennis is one of the sports at the UK School Games

The most talented young athletes in the UK are currently competing in the UK School Games in Coventry.

During the four day event 1,300 competitors will enjoy a 'major event' environment, like the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

This year the Games feature Athletics, Badminton, Fencing, Gymnastics, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis and Volleyball, with disability events in Athletics, Swimming and Table Tennis.

The UK School Games were set up to encourage more young people to take part in sport and activity and showcase the best talent the UK has to offer.

Opening the Games yesterday, double Olympic champion Daley Thompson said: 'The event is a fantastic opportunity for some of the country's most talented sporting youngsters to develop.

'Interest in these competitors is only going to increase between now and the London Games and the experience of competing this week will undoubtedly help them further their ambitions.'
