Paralympian club thrower Stephen Miller and athletes Nick McCormick, Jo Jackson and Glenn McCory were encouraging everyone to ‘join in’ with the London 2012 Roadshow as the branded double decker bus arrived at the Northumberland Street Games.

Visitors enjoyed taster sessions run by Sport England, sampling basketball, archery and circus skills.

Representatives were on hand to provide details about local clubs and facilities and it is hoped some will be inspired to continue their new hobbies.

There were also plenty of hits on the new 2012 Challenge website as visitors recorded what they want to achieve by 2012.

Regional Director with Sport England North East Judith Rasmussen said: ‘Get Active Northumberland Day is a great event for the Roadshow to visit as the day’s activities really champion this year’s goal to encourage people to take up sport in a fun and supportive environment.

‘We’re really pleased the Roadshow visited our region once again as we plan and look forward to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games – an event that is inspiring so many people to take up the event professionally or just for fun.’
