London 2012 presents IOC with vision for lasting legacy

London 2012 organisers today told members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of the long-lasting benefits the Games will bring to the UK.

Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell explained 'Our Promise for 2012', outlining the key aims for leaving a legacy from the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the plans to ensure they are achieved.

Five promises for the future include making the UK a world-leading sporting nation and inspiring young people to take part in volunteering and cultural events.

The plans were announced at the start of an annual three day visit from the IOC Coordination Commission, which will hear about progress on every aspect of the Games.

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone and Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association Simon Clegg were also on hand to explain their responsibilities in delivering the promises.

Sebastian Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee said: "Creating a lasting legacy for London and the UK has been at the heart of our vision for the Games from day one.

"Our presentations today focussed on how we will take our vision and turn it into a sustainable reality, delivering lasting benefits for future generations all around the country, long after the final race has been run."
