One supplier will be awarded a licence giving them the exclusive right to supply ready-mix concrete to all Olympic Park contractors.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is searching for a company to supply all of the ready-mix concrete needed for the construction of the Olympic Park venues, infrastructure and associated works.

The winning supplier will need to support the ODA's sustainable development strategy commitments which include minimising carbon emissions with an emphasis on delivering at least 50 per cent of materials by weight to the Olympic Park through sustainable methods.

The winning supplier will also build a batching plant and have responsibility for the site-wide delivery, off-loading and distribution of concrete to contractors.

The Invitation to Tender (ITT) is expected to be issued at the beginning of August and the contract awarded in November.

ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said:

"This is a key contract for us and will help ensure consistency of supply and stability in price for contractors working on the Olympic site.

"Using just one supplier for a project of this size and scale is a ground-breaking move but the industry is up for the challenge."
