Over 95 percent of demolition materials from the Olympic Park site is being reused or recycled, beating the 90 percent target set out in the Olympic Delivery Authority’s (ODA) Sustainable Development Strategy.
Over 10,800 tonnes of materials has so far been sorted, including brick, concrete and two tonnes of roofing tiles.
The remaining five percent of materials not reused or recycled includes 161 tonnes of asbestos, which has been safely disposed of.
The ODA also announced that 20 percent of the site has now been cleared, making it well on the way to finishing by the Summer 2008 target.
ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said: "We want London 2012 to be the greenest Games in modern times and have set ourselves tough targets to recycle or reuse materials wherever possible.
"These figures show we are not only meeting our commitments, we are beating them.
"We are setting new standards in sustainable construction and our contractors deserve credit for meeting the challenge."
