Games organisers have today submitted planning applications to upgrade one of the first venues ready for the London 2012 Games.
They will build a new permanent slipway, race-boat parking, and lifting and mooring facilities at Weymouth and Portland.
The facilities will also form part of the legacy left after the Games.
Olympic Delivery Authority Chief Executive, David Higgins, said: “Involving the local community has been a key part of developing our plans for Weymouth and Portland.
“These planning applications are the important first-step towards delivering new world-class facilities that will benefit elite athletes and the local community before, during and long after the Games.”
Work on the facilities is due to be completed by the end of 2008.
