Construction companies were today invited to bid to build the London 2012 Aquatics Centre.
Companies will build the venue according to the Zaha Hadid designs revealed last year.
The Aquatics Centre will host the Swimming, Diving and Synchronised Swimming events, and some of the Modern Pentathlon.
After the Games it will re-scale into a smaller facility more suited to the local community, with features such as an adjustable floor to allow for mother and baby sessions.
Olympic Delivery Authority Chief Executive David Higgins said: "This is an opportunity for a major construction company to build a world-class London 2012 venue fit for the best athletes in the world in and a lasting legacy.
"The Aquatics Centre will form a spectacular gateway to the Olympic Park from Stratford.
"After the Games it will become a new landmark for London, a new home for UK swimming and a new swimming and fitness facility for local people."
