The planning application for the Olympic Park was submitted today, marking a major step in the transformation of the site.

One of the biggest planning applications in European history, the 15 volume, 10,000 page document covers plans for all elements of the Olympic Park site, including sporting venues, highways, river works and parks.

It covers 2.5 sq kilometres of land, looking at usage both in 2012 and after the Games, when the site will be transformed with housing, schools and facilities for the local community.

The project now moves into the next phase, called 'Making the Park 3D': demolition, dig and design.

Sebastian Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: "London 2012 will be a prime example of sport acting as a catalyst for regeneration, and the planning application we are submitting today clearly shows the transformational powers of the Games.

"This is one of the biggest and most complex planning applications ever prepared in this country, and is another key milestone for us on the road to 2012."
