UK Athletics (UKA) has appointed a new Chief Executive, Neils de Vos, to lead the development of the sport to London 2012 and beyond.
De Vos comes with a strong sports administration background, as the former Chief Executive of Sale Sharks Rugby Union team, who became Premiership Champions for the first time in 2006.
He was also Commercial Director for the successful Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games.
De Vos will work closely with recently appointed UKA Chairman Ed Warner to develop the organisation, supporting athletes at both the elite and grassroots level.
Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee Sebastian Coe, a member of the recruitment panel for de Vos’ appointment, said: "This is a crucial time for UK Athletics in the run-up to London 2012.
"Clear leadership is needed at the top of the organisation to ensure that the right support structures are put in place for our athletes.
"Niels has an impressive background in the business of sport and I look forward to hearing his ideas and working with him and Ed Warner in the coming years."
