Demolition begins for Paralympic venue

Demolition work begins on the Olympic Park site
Demolition work begins on the Olympic Park site

Work started today on the site of the Paralympic Tennis and Archery venue for the 2012 Games.

An old, vandalised sports hall on Eton Manor, in the north of the site, was knocked down to clear the area for future construction work.

In addition to Paralympic Tennis and Archery, the venue will provide training facilities during the Olympic Games.

Afterwards it will provide a state-of-the-art sports centre for local people.

Three Paralympic Archers marked the historic occasion by firing arrows into a target on the site.

Seb Coe, who attended the event, commented: "We have made excellent progress on the Olympic Park site this year, and this is another important landmark for us on the road to delivering a memorable Olympic Games and Paralympic Games."
