Olympic Delivery Authority Chair David Higgins today highlighted the value of the long term regeneration taking place as a result of hosting the 2012 Games.
Higgins was speaking at the Thames Gateway Forum, an annual event for those involved in the redevelopment of the Thames Gateway and Olympic Park area.
He described the development of the area as the biggest regeneration project in Europe, bringing with it major social and economic benefits.
Higgins said: "There is no doubt that London 2012 will be the greatest sporting event in the world, but London 2012 can also be remembered as the ‘Regeneration Games’ and contribute to the economic and social renaissance of parts of the Lower Lea Valley that suffer from unacceptable levels of deprivation and urban decay."
