London 2012 plans for 'public transport Games'

London 2012 organisers aim to have all spectators either walking, cycling or taking public transport to the Games.

The plans were outlined in the draft Transport Plan announced today by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).

At the heart of the plan is the Javelin rail service, which will speed spectators from central London to the Olympic Park in seven minutes.

The plan also emphasises the need for London's transport system to be sustainable, making as small an impact on the environment as possible.

The new system will transform the Lower Lea Valley, providing a lasting legacy of exceptional national and international travel links to and from the area.

The ODA is welcoming comments ahead of a Full Plan to be announced in summer 2007.

Further editions of the plan will be issued in 2009 and late 2010 or early 2011.
