Elite coaches pinpointed for 2012

Olympic Hockey player Jason Lee is one of the ten new participants on the Elite Coach scheme

Ten British coaches have been picked to take part in an 'Elite Coach' scheme designed to help produce top-grade talent for the 2012 Games.

Run by UK Sport, the course provides intensive, personalised training to improve both technical and leadership skills, helping the coaches to be a driving force to success for UK sporting talent.

Representing a range of sports including Hockey, Sailing and Athletics, the participants were nominated by their sport's governing bodies before undergoing a rigorous selection process.

They will have the chance to learn from the best in their field as well as getting leadership tips from the world of business, industry and the arts.

Liz Nicholl, UK Sport's Director of Performance, said: "Coaches will play a critical role in our ambition to move up the medal table both in Beijing and critically in London 2012.

"As such, Elite Coach represents a key strategic investment in our drive for success."

Currently in its third year, UK Sport hopes the Elite Coach scheme will produce over 50 elite British coaches by 2012.
