London 2012 Organising Committee Chair Sebastian Coe has been appointed as the Chairman of FIFA's new, independent Ethics Committee.

The new committee will investigate conflicts of interest and breaches of FIFA rules off the field of play and will work alongside the existing Disciplinary Committee and Appeal Committee.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter said: "Coe's personality and integrity, which is renowned the world over, will ensure that he is the best possible person for this role."

Sebastian Coe said: "I am delighted to have been selected for this important role.

"Inspiring young people into sport is a personal passion of mine. To do this, we must protect and promote the ethics and morals of sport for future generations."

"I will take up this new role alongside my commitment to London 2012 - I will continue to spend a significant amount of time working to ensure we stage the best-ever Games."
