Paralympic gold medallist Giles Long will join London's Summer of Sport at a special Swimming afternoon.

The event is part of the Mayor of London's summer-long programme designed to encourage Londoners to get out and get active.

Running through to the end of September, participants are able to try a wide range of sports for free or at a low cost, including Football, Tennis, Sailing and Basketball.

Giles Long will be on hand at Finchley Lido in North-West London on 5 September to inspire people with his message about the benefits of sport.

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: "With the London Summer of Sport we are urging Londoners to get out and have a go.

"It's a brilliant opportunity to show that, as well as being good for your health and great to watch, sport is for everyone and great fun.

"Giles is an inspiration for sports people of all ages and abilities. I am delighted that he is taking part in Summer of Sport."

London 2012 Chairman Sebastian Coe said: "The London Summer of Sport gives young Londoners the chance to try a new sport and this in turn could inspire our next round of Olympic and Paralympic champions."

The Summer of Sport will take place every year in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and continue as a legacy of the Games after 2012.
