UK Sport has announced a new scheme to identify potential 2012 medal winners.

British athletes aged 15-25 with Olympic and Paralympic aspirations are being encouraged to email talent@uksport.gov.uk to become part of a process to maximise their potential.

The hopefuls must already be of a high standard, taking part in team sport to at least county level.

Candidates will go through a careful selection process and must be interested in trying their hand at another sport.

Chelsea Warr, Performance Consultant at UK Sport, said: "This is just one part of a whole raft of initiatives designed to ensure that no stone is left unturned in the hunt for potential London 2012 competitors.

"The majority of the British team who will compete at the Games will already be in the high-performance sports system, or affiliated with the relevant governing body, but there will be opportunities for others to make it through, particularly if they have skills and strengths which are transferable to other sport."
