The Caribbean spirit will brighten up London at the weekend
The Caribbean spirit will brighten up London at the weekend

London will be awash with colour this weekend as the annual Notting Hill Carnival hits the streets.

Up to a million people are expected to enjoy the mixture of Caribbean sounds, costumes and food on Sunday 27 and Bank Holiday Monday 28 at Europe's biggest street festival.

The party spirit will also be found on Sunday at the second Caribbean Showcase in Hyde Park, organised by the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone.

Ken Livingstone said: "Caribbean Showcase reflects the rich diversity of London's communities and the positive contributions that Londoners of Caribbean origin have made to the capital's art, culture, and economy for many decades."

Early discussions are currently underway to determine how best to draw upon the carnival spirit for the Cultural Olympiad of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
