British athletes exceeded expectations at the Athletics World Junior Championships, winning a total of five medals in Beijing.

The men's 4x100m and 4x400m Relay teams both won bronze, to add to the bronze for Alex Nelson and Martyn Rooney in the 200m and 400m.

Rooney gave an especially strong performance in the 4x400m, pulling the team from 7th to a medal winning position in his anchor-leg run.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey won gold in the 100m earlier in the week.

The total beat the target of three medals set by team leader Martin Rush.
