Craig Reedie with HRH Princess Royal in Singapore for the London 2012 bid

Sir Craig Reedie and Dick Palmer were today recognised by Her Majesty the Queen for their contribution to British sport and London's successful 2012 bid.

Former Chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA) and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sir Craig Reedie received a knighthood.

Sir Craig was instrumental in convincing the Government to support London's bid.

As an IOC member he has been involved in organising the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.

Technical Director of the London 2012 bid Dick Palmer received a CBE.

Head of the British Olympic team from 1980-1996, he is currently Executive Vice President of the BOA and a Director of the British Olympic Foundation.

Sir Craig said: "This has been the culmination of many years of enjoyable effort, seeing the British team success at Sydney and Athens, and seeing London win the greatest prize in sport winning the right to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"This is a great honour for me and it has been a privilege to be involved in British sport."

Dick Palmer said: "The London bid demonstrated that when everyone pulls together the politicians, the City, sport and the great creative talent available in the UK - that everything is possible.

"At London 2012 the team was well lead, focussed, motivated and it was very special to be part of such a unique group of people."
