The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) today appointed its Director of Infrastructure and Utilities.
Simon Wright, who drove the £200m regeneration of Greenwich Peninsula, will be responsible for ensuring the water, electricity and gas needs of the Olympic Park in 2012 and beyond are met.
He will also manage all aspects of infrastructure for the Games' venues and facilities, planning for both Games-time and legacy.
David Higgins, ODA Chief Executive said: "Simon has over 30 years experience in managing complex, large-scale infrastructure projects and he will be an invaluable addition to the ODA senior management team.
"Getting the infrastructure and utilities right is crucial to the staging of a successful Games and to ensuring we leave a lasting regeneration legacy for the people of East London."
Wright was formerly Director and Group Leader of Arup Project Management Europe. He will start at the ODA in August 2006.
