Yorkshire update on 2012 progress

LOCOG Chair Sebastian Coe has welcomed Yorkshire's progress in preparing for the 2012 Games.

The double Olympic Gold medallist yesterday visited the site of the new 50-metre Olympic standard swimming pool and diving centre at South Leeds Stadium and attended a meeting of the Nations and Regions Yorkshire steering group - the body responsible for maximising the benefits to Yorkshire of the 2012 Games

Coe praised the preparations made by the region said: "You are ahead of the game here.

"Yorkshire was the only area to have completed an audit of facilities before the vote on staging 2012 was taken last summer in Singapore.

"This region has a strong economy in manufacturing and service industries, and there will be thousands of contracts to be won across a whole range of business opportunities."

Research undertaken during the Bid showed that Yorkshire could see an economic boost of around £600m from the 2012 Games.
