LOCOG Chair Sebastian Coe has been named the overall Great Briton of 2005.

The double Olympic gold medallist collected the award at a ceremony held the Guildhall in London.

The winner was decided by public vote from a list of seven category winners including yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and animator Nick Park.

The awards were designed to celebrate success and achievement across many walks of life including arts, business and campaigning.

Accepting the award, Seb said: "I am honoured to receive this award. It is a tribute to the whole London 2012 team who bought the prize of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to London."

In recognition for his work in winning the 2012 Games for London, he had previously been awarded the Public Life accolade.

Judges described the Bid leader as "a true ambassador for the UK, having changed the face of sport in this country for the current and future generations."
