Students from across the UK who took part in the London 2012 design competition ‘Get Set to make your mascot’ have seen their winning designs become official London 2012 pin badges.
Two of the winning Mandeville designs that have been made into pin badges.
The competition was an initiative run through
Get Set, the London 2012
education programme. It invited young people in schools and colleges to
design a version of the Olympic mascot Wenlock or the Paralympic mascot
Mandeville to represent their community or region.
The pin badges are now available in to buy in stores and online from
London 2012 shops and
John Lewis stores.
More than 2,500 competition entries were received,
with designs from each nation and region shortlisted for a national final in London. At the event, the budding designers pitched their designs to a judging panel which included Olympian Jonathan Edwards, Paralympic wheelchair basketball player Ade Adepitan and London 2012 Head of Education, Nick Fuller.
London 2012 Organising Committee Chair Seb Coe said: ‘I’m delighted that the student’s designs have been made into official London 2012 pin badges. This competition not only encouraged school children to think about what their community or region means to them but it also showed how young people across the UK can get involved and play their part in London 2012.’
The winning students were:

- Lauren Linter from Springfield School, South East
- Naaser Butt from St Albans Academy, West Midlands
- Jessica Lewis from Caistor Grammar School, East Midlands
- Elizabeth Siddle from Beauchamps High School, East of England
- Erin White from St Thomas Moore RC Secondary School, North East
- Aiden Shipp from Churston Ferrers Grammar School, South West
- Emma Davies from Stanwell School, Wales
- Amy Shaw from Campbeltown Grammar School, Scotland
- Sophie Roscoe from Neston High School, North West
- Shannon Belvin from St Angela's Ursuline School, London
- Karlann McDermott and Siun Heaney from St Cecilia's College, Northern
