The finalists were shortlisted in a UK-wide competition to create a special ‘infill’ for the London 2012 Olympic logo. They came top among 150 young people aged 16-21 who entered the competition from around the UK.
The finalists are:
- Shakir Ahmed, 18, a student at Seven Kings High School, Ilford;
- Charlotte Terry, 16, from Sir William Ramsey School, Hazlemere; and
- Reiss Evans, 18; Luke Groves, 18; Adam Reeves, 17; and Zoe Washer, 17 - all from Canterbury College
From September, the winning education logo will be awarded to schools which actively participate in London 2012’s education programme by joining the ‘Get Set’ network.
London 2012 Chairman Sebastian Coe said: 'We’re asking schools and colleges who want to join the ‘Get Set’ network to place young people in the driving seat and empower them to demonstrate a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values.
‘So it’s only right that the logo we award be designed by young creative talent. The competition demonstrates our commitment to involve young people in the London 2012 Games in many different ways.’
Shanaze Reade, BMX world champion and Olympian, said: ‘The finalists have real talent and I’m impressed by how hard they’ve all worked on their entries. It’s great to see young people inspired about getting involved in the London 2012 Games.’
