    Building contract awarded for Rowing and Canoe venue

    The contractor to build the enhanced Rowing and Canoe facilities at Eton Dorney has been appointed by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).

    Rowing will be one of the sports hosted at Eton Dorney during the London 2012 Games

    Eton Dorney is a 2,200m eight-lane rowing course, with a separate lane alongside it that competitors use to warm up and return to the start of the course.

    During the London 2012 Games Eton Dorney will host Olympic Canoe Sprint, Rowing and Paralympic Rowing events. It is already a world-class facility, but minor improvements are needed to bring it up to the required standards for hosting events during the Games.

    The competition lane and the return lane are being linked by a new cut-through – a strip of water allowing athletes to move between the two lakes more easily.

    Two bridges are being built by Morrison Construction. The first spans the new cut-through and the existing finish line bridge is being replaced with a longer one. A road leading up to the venue is also being upgraded to improve access for construction vehicles working on site.

    After the Games, Eton Dorney will continue to provide world-class training and competition facilities.
