London 2012 was also instrumental in developing a new British Standard for a Sustainable Event Management System.

Between now and 2012 there will be numerous events connected to the Games - including roadshows, conferences, cultural events and promotional launches. The Games themselves will be subject to a sustainability management system being developed by the London 2012 Organising Committee.

The guidelines will be continually reviewed and updated as necessary. London 2012 Head of Sustainability, David Stubbs, said: 'We launched our Sustainability Plans over a year ago, outlining our overall vision for the Games. Since then we have been drilling down into the detail of each different element - events are a key part of this. Our guidelines will ensure they are arranged and run in the most sustainable way possible.'
