The 17-year-old Nottingham student knocked five seconds off his own world record in the Men’s 400m Freestyle (S8) Heat, touching in at 4:26:46.
‘I kept my stroke rate high throughout the race and tonight I will go out hard and come back even harder,’ said Hynd.
A total of 10 British swimmers have made it through to the final.
‘I know I have a lot left for tonight. That was a well placed race. I was aiming for 2:28 to 2:26, so to get 2:26 is just great,’ Hynd added.
Hynd is aiming to add to the bronze medal he won in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (SM8).
