Lord's proves Archery credentials

Lord’s Cricket Ground showed it’s on target for a great 2012 Olympic Games as the Marylebone venue played host to its first international Archery tournament.

Monday’s International Archery Challenge involved teams from China, India and Britain and saw former British Olympians taking aim alongside new faces, with Athens 2004 bronze medallist Alison Williamson and junior champion Naomi Folkard competing on the women’s team.

Naomi made her Olympic debut as a 20-year-old student at Athens and is now one of Britain’s brightest prospects for London 2012.

Larry Godfrey, 2005 European Grand Prix Champion, was part of a strong side men’s team, which also included Alan Wills and Simon Terry, both fresh from success at last month’s World Outdoor Target Archery Championships in Leipzig.

Larry said: ‘Like all my team mates, I really enjoyed competing at Lord’s. It gave us some great experience as we start to plan for the London Games which are now five years away.’

The tournament was organised by MCC in conjunction with the Grand National Archery Society and attended by London 2012’s Head of Sport Competition David Luckes.
