Each event or location during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will fall into one of three media accreditation categories. Starting very shortly, information on each week’s opportunities will be released on a rolling basis for accreditation. There are three types of access to different elements of each day and LOCOG will endeavour to make clear all opportunities and relevant contact details on this website.
Accredited by LOCOG
- Accreditation requests and media access handled by LOCOG Press Office for sites where logistics are complex, access is constrained and/or demand is expected to be particularly high
- LOCOG Press Office to work with the Torch Relay route and events team and local stakeholders to agree the maximum quantity of media to be accommodated
- All media enquires relating to this event handled by LOCOG Press Office who will work in close collaboration with hosts authority/operator
- LOCOG issue passes on day
- Examples include access to the Media Truck (Media One), Alternative Modes of Transport and Evening Celebrations
Accredited by the venue
- Accreditation requests and media access handled by venue management or local authority with guidelines agreed with LOCOG press office
- Venue management decide maximum quantity of media in conjunction with LOCOG Press Office
- Media enquiries handled by venue management
- Venue issue their own passes or other form of access system e.g. media check-in list
- Examples may include Belfast Zoo, Ascot, St. James’ Park, Duxford Airfield
Not accredited
- No media accreditation forseen
- Media that enquire are informed of roughly when the Flame will be expected
- No passes or media lists required
- Local Authority communications contact provided for further information on best vantage points along the route / in a particular community
- Examples include most areas of the public highway, public beaches and parks where there not controlled events being staged
Media accreditation for the London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay (24 – 29 August 2012) will open after the conclusion of the Olympic Torch Relay later this summer.
