The London 2012 Cultural Olympiad initiative Film Nation:Shorts, in partnership with Panasonic, gives 14-25 year olds film-makers the chance to get their work showcased at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Our Country is an unaccompanied asylum seeker's perspective on the differences in life between Iran and England. The short film was made through ‘Mediabox’, an initiative that gives disadvantaged 13-19 year olds the chance to create media projects about issues that matter to them and get their voices heard.
The winning film can now be seen on the Film Nation:Shorts website www.filmnation.org.uk and throughout September the film will be shown on the London 2012 Live Sites - a network of big screens across the UK.
Ruth Mackenzie, Director, Cultural Olympiad, said: ‘Our Country is a wonderful short film that delivers a powerful message through clever and imaginative story-telling. The work by Zana Abdollah, made with the support of Mediabox, and Animate and Create is a worthy winner of this Film Nation:Shorts Film of the Month award'.
Film Nation:Shorts invites 14-25 year olds to create short films that celebrate the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games: respect, courage, excellence, friendship, equality, determination and inspiration. Submissions for this year’s Film Nation:Shorts awards are open until 1 October 2010 and the competition culminates in a special national award ceremony each year to highlight the best new film making talent, with the first ceremony in December 2010.
