The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) awards, judged by an independent adjudication panel coordinated by the British Safety Council, recognised the performance and contribution of five teams and four individuals working on London 2012 projects.
John Armitt, Olympic Delivery Authority Chairman said: 'Health and safety has to be at the heart of a project of this size, scale and complexity. A huge amount of progress has been achieved in the last year and thanks to the people that these awards recognise, we have done that with safety being the number one priority.
'But we are not complacent. The Olympic Park is one of the busiest construction sites in the UK and will continue to grow as the workforce increases to its peak in 2010. It is essential that we continue our efforts to make the Olympic Park the healthiest, safest and greenest site in the country.'
Tessa Jowell, Olympics Minister said: 'The ODA's safety record is second to none and this is a credit to everyone involved. I am pleased that the excellent work taking place around the Park to make sure it is a healthy, safe and environmentally friendly place to work is being recognised.'
Brian Nimick, the Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: 'The British Safety Council much appreciates the invitation from the ODA to work with them to develop and deliver the first health, safety and environment awards.
'The applications for both the team and individual awards superbly demonstrate the real benefits that positive safety culture, top level leadership and workforce involvement bring to workplace health and safety.
'The excellent practices exemplified by the award winners - including the use of near miss reporting to drive reductions in unsafe practices and injuries - are worthy of a wide audience.'
