Cycling Manager appointed by the London 2012 Organising Committee

Simon Lillistone has been appointed as the London Organising Committee’s Cycling Manager for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. He will look after all cycling events which will take place at the Velopark in the Olympic Park, the Road race

Simon will oversee all aspects of the cycling events and will provide a focal point for the international cycling federation (UCI) in relation to competition issues whilst ensuring that the competition is organised in accordance with UCI regulations, the IOC Charter and the Host City Contract. He will also be liaising with other LOCOG functional areas to ensure the coordinated delivery of support services such as accreditation, transport, medical, venue operations and volunteers at the cycling venues.

Commenting on his appointment Simon said: “I am thrilled to be taking up this position and being part of the world’s greatest event. Cycling has a high profile in this country and medal hopes are high. The Velopark which hosts the track and BMX events will be a stunning feature of the Olympic Park and along with the MTB venue at Hadleigh Farm in Essex will leave behind a lasting legacy for cyclists. I look forward to developing our detailed plans over the next three years.”

Pat McQuaid, President of the UCI said, “The UCI looks forward very much to working closely with Simon over the next three years to ensure we deliver spectacular, exciting cycling events of which London can be proud. As a result of Simon`s broad experience in different aspects of our sport we have full confidence in his abilities to fulfil what is required of him.”

Simon has had a lifetime involvement in cycling, competing on the international stage from 1987-1996, including being a member of the Great Britain Olympic Team in 1988 and 1992. His most recent role was with British Cycling where he worked in a variety of roles including managing elements of the successful World Class Performance Programme, leading on cycling participation programmes, major event delivery and commercial and marketing activity.
