Clarifying a report in the Financial Times today the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) said that the key venues for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be ready by summer 2011 for test events, as it has always maintained.
As stated in the recent National Audit Office report on London 2012, although the construction periods agreed with the main contractors on both the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre are longer than originally forecast in November 2007 there is limited impact on the planned date for test events.
The ODA is building in early access dates so that LOCOG can carry out the initial overlay work necessary to prepare the venues for test events in parallel with construction.
Both venues will be ready for test events, with construction and initial overlay work complete, by summer 2011 as has always been stated.
ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said: 'We have always said that the main Games venues would be ready by summer 2011 to allow a full year of test events before the London 2012 Opening Ceremony. That is the timetable that matters and nothing has changed. We will allow early access for LOCOG to fit out the venues to Games-time specifications and we are on track to deliver on time.'
