The Olympic Delivery Authority is encouraging local people to take a tour around the 2.5 kilometre squared Olympic Park during London Open House architectural festival on Saturday15 and Sunday16 September.
Guided bus tours around the Olympic Park every 30 minutes from 1pm Saturday and all day Sunday will offer people living around the Park the opportunity to see how clearance and demolition work has quickly got underway since the ODA gained possession of the site just over a month ago. The tour and future visits will give local people the chance to watch up-close the transformation of the area as we demolish of over 250 buildings, remove 52 power pylons and clean up over 1.4 million tonnes of contaminated soil.
ODA Head of External Relations Julie King said:
'Open House is a great opportunity to welcome local people on to the Olympic Park during an exciting phase in its transformation. Following the successful handover of the site a programme to clear and clean the majority of the site by Beijing 2008 is underway. Demolition is taking place across the park and thousands of tonnes of contaminated soil have already been cleaned.
'Construction starts next year and I hope that people living around the Park will take this and future opportunities to watch first-hand the creation of world-class sports venues and the largest new urban park in Europe for 150 years.'
Bus tours will run from the SCORE Complex on Oliver Road in Leyton Places and places must be booked in advance on 0203 023 6056. An exhibition at the Score Complex will feature sporting activities and information on the plans for the Olympic Park.
Notes to Editors For safety reasons children under 12 are not permitted on the bus tours.
