Working in partnership with the charity CleanupUK, Changing Places is looking for people who want to lead the Beautiful Boroughs project in the boroughs of Newham, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Greenwich and Waltham Forest. The challenge is to work with us to recruit and lead volunteers from your community to undertake regular clean-ups activities that will improve your local area.
The aim of the Beautiful Boroughs project is to energise your local community to get involved in regular activity days that will clean up and make where you live look ‘beautiful’. Activities could include litter-picks, the removal of graffiti or the clearing of unsightly undergrowth. What’s key is that we want local people to take control of the activities - they are in the best position to know the problem areas that need tackling and to keep the project buzzing.
So, if you think you can become a leader, plan events and get local people involved then get in touch. We’ll give you all the support that you need to plan your events and form a team of helpers around you. You’ll learn new skills, make great friends, get some good exercise and you might even find that the experience you’ll gain will help you get a new job if that’s what you’re after. And it doesn’t matter how old you are, as long as you’ve got a smile on your face and you like getting things done, we want to hear from you.

With the Olympic Park located within the lower Lea Valley there is an obvious link between the 2012 Games and the Lee Valley Regional Park. Stretching an incredible 26 miles from Ware in Hertfordshire to the Thames at East India Dock Basin, the park offers rich habitat and access to a variety of open spaces.
Volunteers are invited to join Lee Valley Regional Park Authority’s Conservation Tasks Programme, where a range of projects are undertaken to protect the park and its distinctive wildlife. With an opportunity to learn from the knowledgeable Ranger Team, this programme aims to improve the biodiversity of the park with activities including the enhancement of habitat for watervoles and other river species.
For further information on the Conservation Task Programme and a range of other volunteering opportunities please contact the volunteer team at the Lee Valley Regional Parks Authority.
